About Me 👋
I am a Professor of Social Work at the Graduate School of Social Service, Fordham University. I am interested in how digital tools, artificial intelligence and open data can make the lives of individuals in and served by the social sector better. I am honored to partner with orgs such as the Nonprofit AI Sprint, Social Current, BetaNYC and Breaking Ground.
At Fordham I have taught qualitative research, supervision and staff development, fundraising and policy practice at the masters level and social work pedagogy and philosphy of science at the doctoral level. I have also designed and taught courses on Social Work & Technology and Digital Technologies in the Social Sector. I wrote a book about Digital Social Work Practice and I'm working on a new book about nonprofit AI.
Before academia, I worked in youth development orgs around NYC. I was the Director of New School Development and the Director of Evaluation at The Urban Assembly (UA), a network of new specialized public schools located in the Brooklyn, the Bronx and Manhattan. I had the priviledge of supporting principals through the new school process, helping them earn start-up grants valued at over $500,000 per school. Before UA I worked at other youth development orgs such as CASES, the Posse Foundation and the DOME Project.
My M.S.W. is from SUNY Stony Brook with a concentration in planning, administration, and research and my PhD is from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University.
